Guam has new accredited dialysis center
By Mar-Vic Cagurangan
MEDICARE and Medicaid patients suffering from End Stage Renal Disease or ESRD may now seek treatment at the American Dialysis Center, which has been accredited by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the facility's management announced yesterday.
"What it means for the people of Guam is that they have more choices and better quality services," ADC administrator Eric Hayes said.
ADC received its accreditation status during CMMS's facility visit on April 25.
"As a Medicare-approved facility, we are now accepting Medicare and Medicaid clients in need of hemodialysis. We've been operating for nine months but this is the first time we're taking Medicare and Medicaid patients," Hayes said.
Besides ADC, four other facilities on Guam offer ESRD treatment service: the Memorial Hospital, Guam Dialysis Center, Guam Renal Care and Pacific Dialysis Center.
The competition, Hayes said, will raise the quality and standard of hemodialysis service on Guam, which has a large population of ESRD patients suffering from diabetes and hypertension.
